The BASE Boston has a new headquarters, just down the road from its previous location. The new clubhouse is at 150 Shirley St., Roxbury, right next to Clifford Park.
The organization had and open house and college/career celebration on May 21, 2019.
The BASE combines baseball and softball training and competition with academic and career resources to empower student-athletes to achieve their full potential both on and off the field.
Founded in 2013 by Robert Lewis Jr., The BASE builds on 40 years of the Boston Astros. Lewis first began coaching “the Boston Astros” in Boston’s Villa Victoria public housing in the 1970s, starting with only a handful of youth. Since then hundreds have represented the Astros and The BASE extends the powerful culture and foundation of success to many more.
The BASE engages and supports a growing number of youth coaches, including many former Astros players, and has built strong relationships with many other diverse leaders and institutions committed to changing minds, lives and the status quo, from the public, private and nonprofit sectors, higher education, and the community.
Since inception, BASE Boston teams traveled to Chicago each year, to play local teams on the West Side and South Side; local Chicago teams likewise joined us in Boston for the annual Boston Urban Baseball Classic. Building on strong and committed relationships forged over these years of partnership, The BASE Chicago officially joined the family in 2018.
Similarly building on strong relationships forged through shared experiences on-and-off-the-field, The BASE Pittsburgh also launched in 2018, after a successful inaugural Pittsburgh Urban Classic.
