BOSTON — On April 3, 2024, more than 350 guests attended Whittier Street Health
Center’s signature Toast fundraiser which, this year, honored Jeff Leiden, M.D., Ph.D., executive
chairman, Vertex Pharmaceuticals. The event was held at the Hilton Park Plaza Hotel.
During the evening, hosted by Brittany Johnson, investigative journalist at WCVB Channel 5 Boston; Dr.
Leiden was toasted by Dr. Reshma Kewalramani, president, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Betsy Nabel and
Dr. Gary Nabel, co-founders, ModeX Therapeutics, Dr. Joan Reede, dean of for Diversity and
Community Partnerships, Harvard Medical School, Paul Burton, journalist, WBZ-CBS Boston, former
Congressman Joe Kennedy, and Dr. Sangeeta N. Bhatia, John J. and Dorothy Wilson professor of
Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The event raised $1.1 million to support Whittier Street Health Center’s mission to serve as a center of
excellence that provides high quality, and accessible health care and social services that achieve health
equity, social justices, and the economic well-being of our diverse patient populations. The funds raised
from the evening will directly benefit Whittier’s more than 30,000 under-served patients in the Greater Boston area.
