Suffolk University names room for Law School alum George Keches

BOSTON — George Keches, JD ’75 and Ann Marie Maguire Keches, Esq. were honored at Suffolk University Law School May 25, in a celebration marking the naming and dedication of the George N. Keches Room in Suffolk University’s Sargent Hall. The invitation-event drew 125 friends, family and colleagues, along with Suffolk alumni, faculty and staff.

The Keches’ $1 million leadership commitment to Suffolk will establish the George N. Keches JD ’75 Term Scholarship Fund, which will support Law School students from Massachusetts who are the first generation in their families to complete an undergraduate program at a college or university and have demonstrated financial need. The gift will also establish the Thomas F. Healy JD 79 Endowed Scholarship Fund in memory of an outstanding Suffolk Law alumnus and friend of George Keches.

Suffolk Law Dean Andrew Perlman emceed the event and the speakers included Suffolk Law student and incoming president of the Black Law Student Association Kerimal Suriel Guerrero; U.S. Sen. Edward J. Markey (via video); Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito; U.S. Representative Stephen Lynch; George Keches; and Suffolk University President Marisa Kelly. Also in attendance was Suffolk President Emeritus David Sargent, who spent 54 years at Suffolk, including as a law student, professor, law dean, and president for more than two decades. In his remarks, Keches offered a moving tribute to Sargent and thanked him for his mentorship.
