Disabled American Veterans hold race to honor and support all veterans

SOUTH BOSTON — The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) 5K race was held recently at Castle Island in South Boston to honor and support our veterans.

Pictured in the photograph above are: Lou Pasquale, a WWII veteran who served in Okinawa, seen here kissing the hand of fellow veteran Mumtaz Qureshi as a sign of respect for his service and as a fellow comrade who survived the war. Boston Police Commissioner William Gross. The commissioner had just placed his badge around the neck of Mumtaz. Mumtaz Qureshi, a WWII veteran who served in Germany and was thrilled to attend the DAV5K to meet his fellow veterans from all wars.

This chance encounter enabled two World War II veterans to share their stories and enjoy the company of Police Commissioner Gross.
