The New England Center and Home for Veterans holds gala

SOUTH BOSTON — The New England Center and Home for Veterans (NECHV) held its 15th annual Leave No One Behind Gala on Nov. 1 at the Seaport World Trade Center. The event was emceed by NECN Evening Anchor Mike Nikitas.

More than 600 people attended the gala, which benefited the many programs and services NECHV provides at their downtown Boston facility to veterans facing challenges.

Governor Charlie Baker was honored with the Brian A. Brooks Distinguished Service to Veterans Award in recognition of his support of Massachusetts veterans, and the Battlefield Citation award
was presented to Henrietta Oparah. The keynote speaker was Captain Arvin R. Chauncey, US Navy (Retired), who was held as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam from 1967 to 1973.

Entertainment was provided by singer-songwriter Livingston Taylor, who sang the national anthem and closed the event with a performance that included renditions of “America the Beautiful,” “God Bless America” and “Over the Rainbow.”
