Edward M. Kennedy Institute honors Dr. Fauci, the late Bill Russell at annual dinner

DORCHESTER — More than 200 guests attended the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate’s annual dinner that honors the legacy of the late Senator, who died in 2009.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, in one his last public appearances as a member of the Biden Administration, and the late Boston Celtics great Bill Russell, who died in July, were given the Edward M. Kennedy Award for Inspired Leadership, which is presented to “individuals who demonstrate exemplary civic engagement and impact.”

Among those on hand for the dinner were Russell’s widow Jeannine Russell and his granddaughter Kandysse Conrad; EMK Board Chair Bruce Percelay; Senator Kennedy’s son former US Representative Patrick Kennedy and nephew US Representative Joseph Kennedy III; NBC Chief White House Correspondent Kristen Welker; Marylou Sudders, Massachusetts secretary of health and human services; Broadway performer Alan Green, Darren R. Cohen, and Greta Feeney of Nantucket. 

The late Senator Kennedy’s widow, Ambassador Victoria Reggie Kennedy spoke via a remote broadcast from her post in Austria.
