FLORIDA — My friend Brian Purcell, who retired from the Boston Fire Department about 10 years ago, died recently in Florida. A decorated member of the BFD, Brian spent most of his career with Engine 42 in Roxbury. He later was an aide to the District 3 chief. Arrangements are being made by John J. I just wanted to take a moment to remember Tom “Red” Martin, who could claim multiple titles including philanthropist and friend to many. My friend William F. Smith, III, who died suddenly on July 9, 2017 while he was in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Billy, as he was called, was a member of the Boston Police Department’s Firearms Unit.
