BRAINTREE — 500 guests attended the inaugural ball to celebration Mayor Charles C. Kokoros, above left, being sworn in as mayor of Braintree. The swanky event was held at X1 Boston, which is located in Braintree. Kokoros was sworn in on Thursday at a ceremony that included US Representative Steve Lynch serving as emcee. GLOUCESTER — More than a 1,000 people turned out on Saturday, December 28, 2019, for the eighth and final “Plunge for Pete” in honor of the late Pete Frates. The event coincided with what would have been Frates’ 35th birthday. Organizers said that 350 registered to take the plunge but some 400 actually jumped into the cold Atlantic Ocean waters. QUINCY — Quincy’s own Uncle Sam Rounseville used the occasion of his 80th birthday to raise money for the Lions Club, specifically the organization’s effort to work with those who are blind or visually impaired. Uncle Sam’s wife Jean Kenney threw the party at Alba’s restaurant. The couple has been using his birthday as a fundraiser for more than a decade. All photos by Bill Brett
