SOUTH BOSTON — More than 600 guests attended the Alzheimer’s Association’s “Hope on the Harbor” Gala held at Seaport World Trade Center in Boston on June 13, 2017. Among those attending were former Channel 5 news anchor Heather Unruh, Gov. Charlie Baker and his wife, Lauren, and Carol M. Meyrowitz, who was honored by the Association with its “Champion Award.” All photos by Bill Brett.
On Wednesday, Aug. 2, New England Living TV, posted an interview with Unruh about her post-TV news life. Among the things she discussed are that she is working on a documentary, really doesn’t miss the daily schedule of the TV news cycles, and thinks that changes in how people now get their news (on mobile devices, computers etc.) has pushed news stations to “encourage” their young female reporters “to dress more provocatively than I feel is appropriate for delivering news.”
But Unruh had great things to say about TV newsrooms and that despite the changes in the marketplace and pressures faced by TV news operations the people working in TV journalism are as good as ever. “On a positive note, despite having to keep up with the increased digital demands with fewer people, those who bring you the news are some of the most dedicated, principled people,” Unruh tells New England Living TV, “committed to keeping you informed and getting the story right no matter the personal sacrifice.”
