A packed house joins Bill Brett to raise money for proposed Dorchester Fieldhouse

DORCHESTER — Allow us a moment to say “Thank you!” to those who joined our own Bill Brett for a special event at Florian Hall on Sunday to raise money for the proposed Dorchester Fieldhouse to be build on Columbia Point.

Bill and College Hype’s Jack Doherty organized the event, which centered around a panel with Bill Brett, CBS Boston’s Lisa Hughes, NBC10 Boston’s Latoyia Edwards, WBZ “NightSide” host Dan Rea, and WBZ Radio 1030’s Jordan Rich for a discussion of issues and community.

The event was supported by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester and the Martin Richard Foundation, the groups behind building the 75,000-square-foot Fieldhouse. Bill Richard, father of Martin Richard who was killed in the Boston Marathon bombings, spoke about the importance of the Fieldhouse project for the community.

Timberline Construction Corp of Canton was a headlining sponsor of the event. The refreshments, including delicious pizza and pasteries, were provided by Montilio’s Baking Co.

The event also included an auction of some of Bill Brett’s prints with auctioneer Jim Fagan, who was joined on stage by legendary comic Lenny Clarke.

The Boston Police Gaelic Column of Pipes and Drums, the Boston Police Department’s bagpipe band, got things rolling by playing inside Florian Hall. All attendees received a free copy of Bill’s sixth book, “Boston: Game Changers.”
