STURBRIDGE — The 2018 Ken Burns Lifetime Achievement Award was given to “This Old House” host Norm Abram at a sold-out dinner at the Oliver Wight Tavern at Old Sturbridge Village. The award is given annually to “an individual who has made a significant impact on the arts through a project that is relevant to the history Old Sturbridge Village works to preserve.” This year’s award was given to master carpenter and author Norm Abram.…

BACK BAY — The Spaulding Hospital Professionals Council (which many knew by its former name the Young Professionals Group) hosted some 250 people at a recent fundraiser held at the Mandarin Oriental, Boston hotel. The group is dedicated to making the lives of the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital’s patients better. All photos are by Bill Brett.
HINGHAM — A large crowd gathered at the South Shore Country Club to help radio music host Ron Della Chiesa celebrate his 80th birthday recently. Della Chiesa, host of “Strictly Sinatra Sunday with Frank Sinatra & Friends,” was feted at the event that included a performance by Luann Dutra and Rico Barr & The Jump ‘N’ Jive Review. DORCHESTER — Steve MacDonald may have thought he was showing up at Florian Hall for a TV interview, but the Boston Fire Department spokesman was actually surprised by Commissioner Joe Finn and about a 100 friends gathered to wish MacDonald well on his retirement from the department.
