Ted Gartland’s Memorable Photo Gets Seen in a New Light

BOSTON — Bill Brett’s dear friend and longtime colleague Ted Gartland’s famous photo of Philadelphia 76ers Julius Erving and Boston Celtics Larry Bird at each other’s throat was the subject of a wonderful and much shared story in the Boston Globe by Eric Moskowitz.

Bill had always like the photograph, taken in the old Boston Garden in 1984, and asked Gartland if we could share it here.

So that no one gets any big ideas about stealing this version of Gartland’s work, which has, in fact, been stolen many many times, this photo is watermarked and is low resolution. But this version still allows you to see the lightning moment that Gartland captured with his camera so many years ago.
