Dorchester Boys & Girls Clubs hold annual celebration of women leaders

SOUTH BOSTON — More than 450 guests attended The New England Women’s Leadership Awards (NEWLA) hosted by Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester. The event raised more than $500,000 to support the Dorchester nonprofit’s programs.

The NEWLA has celebrated inspiring women for more than 25 years by recognizing more than 100 remarkable women who have met the challenges they face with confidence, persistence and compassion. The honorees are role models and mentors for the Clubs’ members – their stories inspire our young girls (and boys) to dream big, work hard and succeed.

The 2019 NEWLA honorees are: Yvonne Garcia, chief of staff to the CEO of State Street Corporation; Kenell Broomstein, IBEW Local 103 Business Agent; and Noelle Lambert, UMass Lowell senior athlete and founder of the Born to Run Foundation.

The event was chaired by Colette Phillips and WBZ-TV anchor Lisa Hughes, a 2016 NEWLA recipient, was the evening’s emcee.
