Joey McIntyre, in town to support Mass Eye and Ear, visits with the cast of ‘The Lion King’

BOSTON — New Kid on the Block and Broadway veteran Joey McIntyre returned to his hometown this week and his roots.

McIntyre, his wife, Barrett, daughter Kira, and sons Rhys and Griffin met stars Nia Holloway and Jared Dixon from “Disney’s The Lion King” backstage at the Citizens Bank Opera House on Sunday night.

Then on Monday, October 7, 2019, McIntyre performed at the Mass Eye and Ear’s 10th annual “Sense-ation!” gala, which was held at the Westin Boston Waterfront hotel. Money raised is used to accelerate innovations and cures through research, and support the Curing Kids Fund.

The fund was created to help bring life-changing treatments to children with conditions that affect vision, hearing and other debilitating disorders of the eyes, ears, nose, throat, head and neck.

McIntyre has performed at the gala for the last several years. Sense-ation! has raised more than $12 million since its inception.

Joining McIntyre, who was raised in Jamaica Plain, was joined at the event by, fittingly, cast members from “Disney’s The Lion King,” presented by Broadway In Boston and currently playing the Citizens Bank Opera House through October 27.

Also on hand at the gala was event emcee Billy Costa, Co-Host of KISS 108’s “Matty in the Morning” and NESN’s “Dining Playbook”; Mass. Eye and Ear Chairman and Boston Celtics CEO Wyc Grousbeck; Mass. Eye and Ear President John Fernandez; Mass. Eye and Ear physicians, scientists and members of the leadership team; Board of Directors; Trustees; generous friends and supporters; and patients sharing their stories of Mass. Eye and Ear’s impact on their lives.
