COPLEY SQUARE — More than 300 guests attended 71st annual Mistletoe Ball, which was held on Nov. 25, 2017 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza hotel in Boston. This festive annual tradition was started by a group of Boston area women in 1946 on the heels of World War II and during the Greek civil war. All photos are by Bill Brett.
BACK BAY — Hundreds braved the first snowfall of the season for the annual Santa Speedo Run, which raises money for Play Ball! Boston. The SSRun takes the runners, many in Speedos or other bathing suits, on a loop up Boylston Street and down Newbury Street back to the Lir restaurant in the Back Bay. The runners raised more than $76,000 as of the publishing time of this post. All photos are by Bill Brett.

SOUTH BOSTON — Mayor Marty Walsh hosted the 12th annual We Are Boston gala, which recognizes the contributions and achievements of the city’s immigrant and refugee residents. Red Sox Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez was recognized at this year’s event, which shone a spotlight on the Caribbean.
