ART annual gala honors Paul Buttenwieser and raises $1.3 million

THEATER DISTRICT — 400 guests attended the annual gala for the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University. The event, which returned to the stage at the Boch Center Wang Theatre, raised $1.3 million to fund the ART’s programs.

At the March 5 event, ART Artistic Director Diane Paulus honored ART Trustee and longtime Boston arts patron and philanthropist Paul Buttenwieser, who attended with his wife, Katie. Also in attendance were incoming Harvard president Lawrence S. Bacow and his wife, Adele, along with the event’s co-chairs ART Advisor Jerry Jordan and longtime ART Trustee Ann Gund and her husband, Graham.

Others spotted include composer and Harvard alum Matt Aucoin, members of the cast of the ART/ArtsEmerson production of “White Card” Jim Poulos, Patricia Kalember and her husband, actor Daniel Gerroll, and, Barbara Hostetter, Joyce Linde, Amy Abrams, Susan Paine, Lillie Johnson, Katharine Weymouth, Steve and Barbara Grossman, and ART Trustee RoAnn Costin.

The gala ended with a special performance of songs from the ART’s upcoming production of “Jagged Little Pill,” based on the Alanis Morissette’s 1995 album, that were performed by cast members Elizabeth Stanley, Laurel Harris, Logan Hart, Soph Menas, and Nora Schell. Directed by Paulus, the musical has a book by Diablo Cody and orchestrations by Tom Kitt.
