BOSTON — 700 guests turned out on a Tuesday night sporting their best black-tie finery for the MLK Legacy event to celebrate the Boston legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King. The sold-out gala raised $510,000 and was held at the Museum of Fine Arts.
The night featured four-time Grammy winning–Esperanza Spalding, with additional performances by the New England Conservatory featuring pop icon Taylor Dayne, and a concert by one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time –Earth, Wind & Fire. Oscar-winning rapper and songwriter Common rounded out the evening standing in for Harry Belafonte. Also on hand was Rev. Liz Walker, civil rights leaders C.T. Vivian, Bakari Sellers, and Robert Lewis, Jr. led by emcee Tamron Hall, former co-host of the NBC’s “Today” show.
